The gastronomy of Mallorca is famous for its variety and culinary richness, influenced by the geographical location of the island in the Mediterranean and by its history and traditions. Here are some typical dishes and outstanding products of Mallorcan gastronomy:

Pa amb oli: is a traditional Mallorcan meal consisting of traditional bread coated with olive oil, tomato, salt and different ingredients such as cheese, sausages, fish or vegetables. It is a simple but delicious and authentic option.

Frit mallorquí: : it is a typical dish consisting of a mixture of lamb, pork or chicken meat, cut in small pieces and fried with potatoes, peppers, peas and spices. It is tasty and appetizing.

Tumbet: is a layered Mediterranean vegetable dish, similar to ratatouille. It consists of eggplant, zucchini, potatoes and peppers, all baked in the oven with tomato sauce. Meat can also be added for those who want it that way.

Caldereta de llagostí: is a seafood dish very appreciated in Mallorca. It consists of a lobster soup made with tomato, onion, garlic, bell pepper, spices and white wine. It is a tasty and exquisite dish.

Arròs brut: the literal translation is “dirty rice” and the name is due to the color of the broth, cloudy and brownish, provided by the spices (saffron, cloves, chilli, cinnamon, nutmeg and paprika), as well as the chopped liver added at the end of cooking. The recipe for this “meat paella” originated in the countryside, when the farmers would throw into the pot what they had hunted and gathered during the day. That is why the ingredients are not always the same and the meats and vegetables that are added may vary according to the season.

Coca de trampó/trempó: one of the most typical and traditional dishes of the Balearic gastronomy and more specifically of Mallorca. It consists of a flat and salty bread dough, called coca, with a vegetable trempó (onions, peppers and tomatoes) on top, seasoned with olive oil and salt.

Cocarroi: they are a kind of crescent-shaped empanadas filled with vegetables (according to each person’s taste), very typical of Mallorca. They can be made small for an appetizer or larger as a main dish.

Sobrassada: it is one of the best known sausages of Mallorca. It is elaborated with pork meat, paprika and spices, and it is presented in the form of spreadable paste. It is usually eaten on toasted bread or as an ingredient in various dishes.

Ensaïmada: this is one of the most emblematic sweets of Mallorca. It is a sweet dough in the shape of a spiral, spongy inside and crunchy outside, covered with powdered sugar. They can be found in different sizes and styles: plain or filled with cream, chocolate, sobrasada, or with different jams such as angel hair or apricot. A delight!

Crespells: these are traditional Mallorcan cookies made with flour, lard, extra virgin olive oil, orange juice, sugar and lemon zest, which are made especially during the Easter holidays. They come in different shapes and are usually decorated with powdered sugar. They are delicious and addictive!

Rubiols: the rubiol or robiol is a typical pastry of Mallorca and Menorca, of medieval origin, consisting of a piece of fine flour dough, kneaded with oil, butter and egg, orange juice, sugar, folded in a semicircular shape and filled with different jams, chocolate, cottage cheese, custard or cream. Very good!

These are just some examples of the rich gastronomy of Mallorca. The island also offers a wide variety of fresh fish and seafood, extra virgin olive oil, local wines, Mahón-Menorca cheese, among other products that will delight lovers of good food.
